HOW CAN YOU HELP
Educate
“Endangered means there’s still time.”
How do we – each one of us – do our individual and collective part in ensuring the survival of endangered sea turtles?
If you don’t live near sea turtles, sometimes it can be frustrating to think about what you can do to help them in a meaningful way. No matter where you live, there are many things you can do to promote a healthy ocean environment.
ACT RESPONSIBLY
At the end of the day, leave only your footprints behind on the beach
Do not litter! Pick up the rubbish before you leave, this includes cigarette butts
Reduce,reuse,recycle,and refuse single-use plastics
Participate in local beach cleanups
Support policies that protect our turtles and ocean
Contact the authorities if a sea turtle is found sick or injured
Report violations of regulations that protect sea turtles, their eggs, nest, hatchlings and the habitat they depend upon for survival such as poaching, turtle eggs sales, illegal fishing, etc.
EDUCATE
Sea turtles depend on healthy ocean. You don’t have to be a teacher to educate yourself, your friends and your family about ocean issues. Ocean conservation, climate change, and environmental sustainability are among the important issues of our time and there are wonderful online resources.
Focusing on our youth is one way to ensure a more sustainable future. Seek opportunities to promote the involvement of young people in environmental sustainability.
TRAVEL SMART
There is only one Planet Earth, your decisions when you travel affect us all. Be gentle, be respectful, be intelligent, be green.
Select “green tourism” products and services when you travel, this means tour operators that look after the environment. Don’t purchase products such as turtle eggs or sea shells crafts, don’t practice activities that can cause disturbance such as fishing or water sports in marine parks and other harmful activities.
VOLUNTEER
Volunteering is a unique way to have fun while doing something meaningful for endangered sea turtles.
“The only way forward, if we are going to improve the quality of the environment, is to get everybody involved.”
